Co-located with Southeast Asia’s first Google DeepMind research lab, the Singapore Engineering Center translates frontier AI research into production-grade cloud and AI solutions tailored to the needs of Singapore-based companies targeting high-growth global markets
SINGAPORE, September 15, 2026 — Google Cloud today inaugurated the Singapore Engineering Center (SEC), its flagship product development hub in Southeast Asia. Bringing together specialized software engineers across AI, AI Infrastructure, Data, Compute, Machine Learning, Core Networking, Storage as well as Frontline Support and more, the Google Cloud SEC partners directly with enterprises to translate foundational technical breakthroughs into production-ready cloud systems tuned to the needs of Singapore enterprises going global.
By building solutions in Singapore for worldwide deployment, the Google Cloud SEC breaks the mold of conventional regional support outposts. This establishes a unique model in enterprise tech—surpassing pure-play AI labs constrained by scale and traditional hyperscalers confined to post-sales maintenance.
Strengthening Singapore’s Deep Tech and National AI Ecosystem
Google Cloud shared its plans to launch the SEC at Google for Singapore in February 2026, which deepens the company’s commitment to growing an AI-ready workforce and driving regional innovation. Supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), the Google Cloud SEC mandate includes developing:
- Next-Generation Agentic Cloud: Architecting scalable, secure data engines and resilient cloud infrastructure built for low-latency, mission-critical enterprise and agentic workloads.
- Frontier Models to Enterprise Systems: Integrating foundational model and agentic platform breakthroughs into Google’s comprehensive cloud solutions, optimized for localized contexts, and global export.
- Developer Platforms and Automation: Delivering secure API frameworks and autonomous agent orchestration tooling to accelerate software delivery across hybrid and multicloud environments, including Open Source leadership and ecosystem development and contribution.
“Singapore is proud to host Google Cloud’s first Engineering Center in Southeast Asia. It will add depth and expertise to Singapore’s diverse AI and cloud ecosystems by accelerating AI application development and shaping products for global deployment. We welcome Google’s continued investment in the Singapore workforce with new core engineering and FDE roles presenting exciting opportunities for Singaporeans to build expertise with frontier technologies,” said Beng Kong Pee, Executive Vice President, EDB.
Accelerating Lab-to-Market Velocity for Real-World Deployment
By uniting AI researchers and cloud systems architects within a shared engineering environment, the Google Cloud SEC establishes a continuous, closed-loop development pipeline. During the product development cycle, Google Cloud SEC engineers work shoulder-to-shoulder with customers’ technical leads, ensuring Google’s core platforms and production-grade AI systems are tuned around real-world business demands instead of customers having to do this themselves after the fact.
Early engineering collaborations—such as stress-testing real-time multilingual AI models with regional leaders like Grab and developing core financial agentic workflows with DBS—demonstrate how solving high-stakes Southeast Asian business challenges feeds directly into Google Cloud’s worldwide product matrix.
Nimish Panchmatia, DBS Chief Transformation and Data Officer, said, “Singapore has the opportunity to be a trusted global AI hub, bringing together talent, technology and enterprise expertise to drive innovation and growth. The opening of Google Cloud’s Singapore Engineering Center is a welcome addition to this ecosystem. As DBS advances our agentic AI strategy, we look forward to collaborating across the industry to deliver value for our employees and customers in a safe and responsible manner.”
To take these newly tuned products from the engineering hub into sustained commercial production, Google Cloud is also expanding investments in its regional Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) workforce. FDEs build on the product capabilities engineered at the Google SEC, working with customers to integrate and scale their bespoke innovations, and move from pilot to production with speed and scale.
Moe Abdula, Vice President, Customer Engineering, Asia Pacific, Google Cloud said, “A true test of engineering capability is building for the diversity and speed of Asia Pacific, which is why we chose Singapore. By anchoring the entire AI value chain in Singapore—from foundational research to core Google Cloud SEC productization and hands-on problem-solving and implementation via our Customer Engineering and Forward Deployed Engineer teams—we transform frontier capabilities, in close collaboration with our customers, into ready-to-deploy products at unprecedented speed.”
